Buzurgmehr and other political prisoners are in danger

As we previously reported, Buzurgmehr Yorov, a Tajik political prisoner, human rights activist and lawyer was placed in solitary confinement on the eve of the President’s Day in Tajikistan.

According to the information received, he was subjected to torture in the solitary confinement cell, and as a result he was hospitalized in the prison medical center on the evening of November 23, 2022. On the morning of November 24, Buzurgmehr Yorov and five other prisoners, whose names are yet unknown, were transferred to a strict regime penal colony known as “kritiy”. Their exact location is unknown. The prison administration or representatives of the Ministry of Justice did not inform their relatives about the details of transferring these prisoners.

Buzurgmehr Yorov managed to deliver the message that he was being transferred to a strict regime prison known as “kritiy” and there would be no contact with him for about 2 years. He was deprived of telephone calls and the opportunity to receive food and clothes from his family and relatives during this period.

According to information received from various independent sources, the Tajik authorities are preparing a staged “riot of IRPT political prisoners” in the nearest future in Tajik prisons, as a result of which there will be casualties among prisoners inconvenient for the authorities.

In this regard, we have already called on various international human rights organizations and institutions to interfere with the situation and prevent a new tragedy.
